ATTRACT WILDLIFE GUIDANCE

What to Provide

  • Provide a water source for wildlife in the landscape (bird baths, puddling stations, ponds, or other water features).
  • Make sure wildlife shelters exist and are maintained in landscape (e.g., bird or bat houses, snags, brush piles, etc.).
  • Educate residents on the value of attracting wildlife to their landscape and community.

What to plant

  • Add plants that provides habitat, shelter and/or food sources for wildlife.
  • Plant host and nectar plants for butterflies, hummingbirds and/or other pollinators.
  • Install plants including natives that produce fruit, nuts, and berries to provide food for our wild friends.
  • Plant a variety of trees, shrubs and groundcovers that increase vertical layering (layers of vegetation).
  • Allow plants to grow to their natural form; don’t over prune.
